Volume 9: December 15, 2022 | |
Some of the best moments in sports occur when they are least expected, which is what makes upsets and underdog stories so compelling. Nothing captivates an audience's attention like the plucky underdog who somehow, someway, reaches the peak of their sport.
Whether it's a little-known athlete or an entire team pulling off a major upset over an apparently impossible opponent, underdog stories can inspire and stick with us for months, years, and even decades.
Last weekend was one for the underdogs in our league! Esperanza Prep, the No. 5 seed, knocked off HVA East, the No. 4 seed. We also saw Equality Charter, the No. 6 seed, win against I.S. 528, the No. 3 seed.
We're incredibly excited to keep the flag football action going this weekend as we enter the final round of playoffs — the semifinals and championship!

Tip of the Week:
Nine Mental Skills of Successful Athletes
|
In sports, mentally preparing for a game is just as important as physically preparing for one.
The first of the set of mental skills relates to attitude. Successful athletes:
- Realize that attitude is a choice.
- Choose a positive attitude.
- View their sport as an opportunity to compete against themselves and learn from their successes and failures.
- Pursue excellence, not perfection — and realize that they, as well as their coaches, teammates, officials, and others, are not perfect.
- Respect the sport, participants, coaches, officials, and themselves.
Click below to learn more about the skills and how you can apply them not only in sports but in other areas of your life.
