Kudos

Associate Professor of Nursing Brenda Lessen Knoll '89 recently published a new randomized controlled trial with colleagues in Turkey testing her Premature Infant Oral Motor Therapy (PIOMI) on a neonatal critical care population in Gaziantep, adding the use of pressure manometry to measure sucking outcomes. Infants who received PIOMI therapy had higher sucking power, reached full oral feedings sooner, and thus had a shorter length of hospital stay. Following Knoll's first pilot study introducing PIOMI in 2011, there are now 41 studies across 14 countries with supporting evidence on the positive effects of her oral motor therapy.

Announcements

Hansen Parking on Election Day

Tuesday, Nov. 8 is a General Election Day for the State of Illinois and once again the Hansen Student Center will be a polling place. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. To accommodate the anticipated large turnout of voters, we have been asked to set aside the Hansen Student Center lot for election parking. As an alternative place to park, spaces should be available in the lots at the Welcome Center, Evelyn Chapel, Shirk Center and the lot behind the Theta Chi fraternity, which you can enter off of Horenberger Drive.

We make Hansen Student Center available as a polling place not only for the community, but also for our students, faculty and staff who are registered to vote in Bloomington. If you live in precincts 1, 4 or 41, the Hansen Student Center will be your polling place.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Carl Teichman, director of government and community relations, at cteich@iwu.edu.
