Coffee With the President: The College Tour Host Alex Boylan Chats with IWU President S. Georgia Nugent

Illinois Wesleyan University is featured in a new episode of The College Tour, a television series that highlights colleges across the United States through the voices of students. In addition, while on campus, The College Tour host Alex Boylan sat down with IWU President Georgia Nugent for a cup of coffee and chatted about the power of a college education, the liberal arts, innovation at IWU and so much more! Chloe Xu '24 Promotes Healthy Body Image Through Eckley Scholarship

As a 2022 Eckley Scholar at Illinois Wesleyan, Chloe Xu '24 examined how the weight of peer pressure can be damaging to body image.

Titan Athletics

The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Regular Season Championship against Elmhurst University, 6-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 19. This is the second consecutive season in which IWU has claimed the CCIW Regular Season Championship and the fifth time in program history.

A leader in the Joliet communityMichael Clark '03, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Clark was appointed to the Illinois State Police Merit Board by Gov. JB Pritzker in November of 2021. His obituary may be viewed here.

Pediatric physician Dr. Shad Beaty '94 partnered with Dr. Molly Lundy and Springfield Clinic to bring a new pediatric center to Bloomington

Try the beer goggles, learn what it means to "pour a drink" and play trivia Jenga. Come get a ribbon and some candy to show your support for responsible drinking. Most films in this series are shown in their original language with English subtitles; films are closely tied to courses or academic programs, and faculty members present a short introduction to each film, often with group discussions after the screening.

5:30 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library — Curtain Talks Lecture Series: Beyond the Boat: The life and work of John Wesley Powell in Bloomington-Normal — Please join the IWU School of Theatre Arts for a community conversation featuring a roundtable of Powell scholars and experts. The conversation will be centered around Major Powell's lasting impact at Illinois Wesleyan University and the greater Bloomington-Normal community. The talk will also touch on how Major Powell is dramatized in Jacklyn Backhaus's play "Men on Boats,” a humorous depiction of his 1869 expedition down the Green and Colorado Rivers. Featured speakers include McLean County History Museum librarian Bill Kemp, IWU University Archivist Meg Miner and former IWU librarian Marcia Thomas.

Hannah Johnson '12 is among nominees for the 2022 McLean County Women of Distinction Award.


Professor of Physics Gabriel Spalding was elected as vice president of the American Association of Physics Teachers.


Professor and Chair of the Physics Department Narendra K. Jaggi was granted the Distinguished Service Citation Award by the Illinois Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers.


Professor of Anthropology Chuck Springwood has been invited to serve on the advisory board for a European Research Council (ERC) grant. This is a five-year project comprised of a team of four scholars who will conduct a multisensorial ethnographic analysis of firearms across three different sites. The team will investigate the ways firearms, across diverse domains, produce different types of political communities. The case studies will include Brazil, Germany, and South Africa.

Zoom Security Settings


All meetings conducted on IWU Zoom accounts will soon be required to be secured with one of the following security options: a passcode, Waiting Room, or "Only authenticated users can join meetings." If no security option is enabled, Zoom will secure all meetings with Waiting Room. Learn more about Zoom security settings.


Campus Safety Walk


Please join us for the annual Campus Safety walk at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Memorial Center where we will walk campus with an eye to safety, identifying trouble spots for lighting or landscaping. If you cannot attend, please send areas of concern to Director of Campus Safety Mark Welker.

In Sympathy 

Terry Daniel Holmes, son of Assistant Professor of Nursing Elaine Hardy, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14 in Chicago. A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at WW Holt Funeral Home in Harvey, Ill., followed by a funeral service from 11 a.m. to noon.
