Soccer is the universal thread connecting different cultures of a local club whose stories will be featured in a soccer and World Cup exhibit at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Hansen Student Center Oct. 15 through Dec. 20.

Fall Open House I

Tuesday, Oct. 11

11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Joslin Atrium, Memorial Center (also Wednesday in Hansen Student Center) — Flu Shot Clinic — Open to students, faculty, staff, retirees and employee dependents. Pediatric doses will not be available, but doses for those age 65+ will be available both days of the clinic. No pre-registration required. Please bring your insurance information. For employees and their dependents participating in IWU health insurance, the flu vaccine (provided by Hy-Vee) will be processed through the plan at no out-of-pocket cost. All others are encouraged to confirm that Hy-Vee is within your coverage network.


4 p.m., Hansen Student Center — Spoken Word Poet: Melissa Lozada-Olivia — Poet Melissa Lozada-Oliva will do a public reading followed by a book signing.


4 p.m., Auditorium, Welcome Center — Freeman Asia Internship Program Information Session — Through the generous support of the Freeman Foundation, IWU will be able to support around 25 students to do internships in Japan and the Philippines for 6-10 weeks in summer 2023. This opportunity is available to both domestic and international students who are sophomores or juniors at the time of application and who will return to the IWU campus for at least a semester following the internship. If you are unable to attend this meeting, another meeting will be held at the same location on Jan. 12, 2023, at 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 12

12 p.m., Turfler Room, Memorial Center — Hart Career Center Interviewing Workshop — Interviews can be challenging experiences but preparation is key. Can you provide behavioral examples of your strengths? Do you know what questions to ask? This presentation will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to make every interview a great interview.


12 p.m., Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Hansen Student Center — Dean Robertson's Brown Bag Lunch & Learn — Join Dean of Students for Inclusion and Advocacy Prince Robertson as he leads a discussion regarding current events. Sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.


4 p.m., Henning Room, Memorial Center — ReligiosiTEA — The Office of Multifaith Engagement supports the diversity of worldviews present at Illinois Wesleyan – religious, spiritual, and secular. 12:15 p.m., Auditorium, Welcome Center — Titan Career Chat: Careers in Investment Banking — Alumni speakers will share information about this competitive field and how to break in: Nick Huskisson '17, an Investment Banking Associate with Guggenheim Partners; Scott Stevens '96, who received his MBA from Northwestern in 2006, a Senior Managing Director with Guggenheim Partners; and Cole Paraday '22, who started as a Summer Analyst with Guggenheim in 2021 and is now an Investment Banking Analyst.


12:30 p.m., E101, Center for Natural Sciences — Hart Career Center Workshop: Planning for Summer 2023 — Thinking about an internship or researching for next summer? It is not too early to plan and gather necessary materials.


7 p.m., Beckman Auditorium, The Ames Library — International Film Series: 千年女優, Sennen Joyū (Millenium Actress) — Most films in the series are shown in their original language with English subtitles; films are closely tied to courses or academic programs, and faculty members present a short introduction to each film, often with group discussions after the screening. Presented by Assistant Professor of Japanese Chisato Kojima.

A children's book by Amanda Donahue '03 will be released on Nov. 8 titled "Tyler's Purple Arm," teaching children the importance of kindness and compassion.
