Kick Off the New Year Right! Help Decide Priorities for Education and Advocacy

As we enter a major election year, it is vital that the League’s voice remain both respected and effective, nationally and within our local communities. To ensure this, both LWVUS and our own LWV-PA look to us, the grassroots members, to help decide which issues will be the priorities for education and advocacy in 2024–2025. Don’t miss this opportunity to share ideas with fellow Leaguers and make your voice heard.

President’s Message

Thoughts about celebrating the season through theater, parades, family, friends, and fellow Leaguers at the end of this busy year as we look forward to the 2024 election year.

Landmark Voting Rights Act Under Attack

In 1965, Congress passed the Voting Rights Act to protect voting rights for racial minorities and members of certain language-minority groups. Since then, Congress has amended the federal law five times, expanding protections that ensure all eligible voters have equal access to the ballot box and that their votes are counted.

Leaguers Riveted by the Doo Dah Parade

On Sunday, November 19, the 44th Annual Doo Dah Parade kicked off from Old Pasadena. It was a beautiful fall day, and the parade was populated by unusual floats, great musicians, and lots of people in crazy costumes—including our own LWV-PA marchers, who dressed as Rosie the Riveter.

A Modest Appeal from the Events Committee

This is just a little reminder that, while our events are “free” to LWV-PA members (there is no admission charge), they are not really free to the League. The Events Committee does have to budget for both the room and the light refreshments—muffins, bagels, coffee, and tea—that are available at in-person meetings. When you attend, please consider a modest donation to help defray these costs.

How to Print the Voter

Many if not most of our members like reading the Voter in print. Here’s a step-by-step, illustrated guide so you can print out current and archived issues of the Voter.

The LWV-PA Voter Education Campaign Has Started—and We Need You!

Vote411 is the LWV-sponsored platform for voting and election information that is replacing Voter’s Edge. We need volunteers who will be trained to help us get the new platform up and running in the coming election year. This could be fun for those with basic keyboard and computer skills. Interested?

News from your League committees. Read about the current activities of LWV-PA’s committees and learn what they need from you. You are always welcome to join or just sit in. Some committees are returning to safe in-person meetings while some meetings remain virtual and accessible from home—check with your committee chair. Committee membership is both rewarding and fun, and it does the good work for which the League is known. So come and join in!
