Dear Blossom Hill Families:
Thank you for sending your student prepared to participate in last Monday’s district-wide Earthquake Drill. It was a cool, blustery spring morning, and the sweatshirts and jackets were definitely needed. I am pleased to share that the drill was a success! We were able to implement the site’s Incident Command Structure (ICS) and use the assigned roles and responsibilities to implement a search & rescue team, evacuate the facility, deal with multiple staged scenarios involving structural damage to a solar panel, as well as respond to both an injured student and parent volunteer. During the event, we set up a command center, first aid station, reunification center, and student release area, all while communicating status and needs to the district office ICS. All this was completed in 43 minutes.
The debrief at both the site and district levels was beneficial in providing insights into where improvements can be made. Overall, the staff was grateful for the opportunity to practice their roles using the ICS to ensure we are prepared to care for students during an emergency, as well as execute a smooth reunification process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
More good news!
This Friday, we are excited to welcome accomplished author Mac Barnett to Blossom Hill to host two assemblies where he will be reading some of his books and talking about the processes he follows to write and publish a book.
In addition, Mac will be hosting an Author’s Fair Luncheon in the library for winners of a recent drawing. Each classroom has been gifted a Mac Barnett book of their choice thanks to the generosity of our Home & School Club. A GIGANTIC THANGS goes to our librarian, Amy Grepan, and Super Hero Volunteers, Francine Shore and Nicole Duke, for providing us with the opportunity to learn from an author of Mac’s talent and caliber.
Finally, I want to offer gratitude to Mrs. Petty and her students for the beautiful welcome poster they made for Mac Barnett. I am sure when he sees it his bucket will be filled to the brim!
With joy,
Lisa Reynolds, Principal
