From the Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hill Families:
It is hard to believe we are wrapping up the month of September. Thank you for your enthusiastic support to help us start the new school year off on such a positive note.
Last week, our third graders had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the annual Blossom Hill Bike Rodeo. Great gratitude goes to Wendy Riggs, Safe Routes to School Director for LGUSD, Peter Binkley & Coral Soto, the SR2S Parent Leads at Blossom Hill, Kristin Hutchinson our H&SC President, the Los Gatos Saratoga Police Department, and the following parent volunteers for organizing and supporting the event: Will Schmidt, Naree Yoon, Natasha Schisslefr, Natasha Burtis, Brent Graham, Eva Duounias, Julia Wong, Cindy Wang, Sandy Fu, Shoshana Reedy, Xuandao Tran, Loony Chang, Annie Lee and Dan Kelly.
During the rodeo, students had the opportunity to practice controlled riding, making right turns, and stopping. Participants also learned about the importance of scanning before moving left, how to safely exit a driveway, and the best technique to push off smoothly from a full stop. In addition, everyone practiced how to yield to traffic that has the right of way and how to use eye contact and hand gestures to confirm who proceeds first.
These basic cycling skills are key to being a successful bike rider. If we all practice and follow the rules of the road while wearing a properly fitted helmet, we can make a big difference in keeping ourselves and others safe.
It is extremely valuable to provide our students with these important safety rules and the chance to practice them in real life situations. We are truly fortunate to have such a dedicated and supportive community volunteering their time and expertise to make it happen.

Walk, Bike, Scoot, or Carpool to School!
Safe Routes to School and the Honeybee Power Programs are back! Students who walk, bike, Scoot, or Carpool to school October 4-7 can enter to win prizes by scanning their Honeybee Power cards at entry gates along Blossom Hill and Cherry Blossom road before school. Parents are needed to help track students on Thursday, October 6 before school. We are also looking for Fisher Middle School Students to help scan students on Monday mornings throughout the year for our Honeybee Power program. Data collected through these programs help the local Safe Routes to School Chapter work with the town and police department in allocating resources for student safety.

Honeybee Power FAQs
What is the Honeybee Power Program? Each Monday, students who walk, bike, Scooter, or carpool to school can scan their "Honeybee Power" cards and be entered into weekly drawings for special prizes and school spirit gear. This program aims to reduce traffic congestion an provides a healthier environment for our school. We are also able to share information collected with partner organizations at the town and in law enforcement so they can allocate safety resources around campus.
What does my student need to participate? All Blossom Hill students will receive a card with a unique QR code in their classroom. The card is durable and should be used for the duration of the student's time at Blossom Hill. Replacement cards can be purchased for $3 through the Home & School Club. The card should be attached to the student's backpack to make scanning easy for everyone.
What makes up a carpool? A carpool includes students from two or more families traveling in the same car. Families with three or more students traveling in the same car are also considered carpoolers.
What is considered walking? Families who live close to campus can walk to school easily. However, families who live driving distance from campus are considered walkers if they park at Shir Hadash or Blossom Hill Park and walk their children to campus. This reduces the traffic in our drive aisles and helps reduce the back up of cars onto Blossom Hill Road and Cherry Blossom Road. Please do not park at the Presbyterian Church. Please do not cross the street in undesignated areas without a crosswalk. Crossing without a crosswalk puts you, your student and other members of the community in an unsafe situation.
Where can my child get their card scanned on Mondays? Students can be scanned at the MPR, Front Office, Cherry Blossom, and Kindergarten entry gates. Five volunteers are needed to help scan student cards at these entry gates each week. Please sign up here to help support this program. (If there is not a scanner at your usual gate, we were short of volunteers. Please sign up to help scan the following week.) Fisher students can also sign up to scan and have their time counted toward Fisher's community service program.
