Michael Kunicki graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. He has 6 years of experience as a clinical research coordinator for UC Davis Medical Center and Stanford University Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. His previous work specialized in Pediatric Immunotherapy with a focus on CAR-T cell therapy. His experience includes patient screening and enrollment, regulatory communication and management, correlative research, AE collection and reporting, and research staff hiring. Please help us in giving him a warm welcome!

Every September, a broad coalition of groups representing the medical research advocacy community meet with House and Senate offices in Washington, DC to urge members of Congress to make funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) a national priority. Their goal is to have meetings scheduled with all 535 members of Congress.

(NEW!) Accepting Applications: Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER)


CER compares the benefits and harms of alternative healthcare interventions. It utilizes data generation (new studies) and data synthesis (comparisons of existing studies) to provide evidence on best practices for improving health care. This program has two workshops:


Observational Studies and Data Registries (deadline to register is Friday, September 6).


Pragmatic Clinical Trials (deadline to register is Friday, September 13).


Up to 15 applicants will be competitively selected and invited to participate in each workshop Participation and the travel costs will be covered by the grant. Learn more and Apply

Collaborative Engine Pilot Project Program Application Due September 16



The CFCCC is accepting proposals from scientists who are interested in collaborating with the UCI High-end Mass Spectrometry Facility (HMSF) to address important biological research questions in cancer that can only be answered using the advanced technology available at the HMSF.

Accepting Applications: Physician Scientist Pathways Certificate Course


The School of Medicine Office of Research is excited to announce the Physician Scientist Pathways Certificate Course! This course will prepare physician scientists by enabling them to combine their clinical knowledge with skills in scientific investigation. This course will commence in September 2024 and run for six weeks, two hours/week. It is a hybrid course, which includes three in-person sessions and three online sessions. Apply by Friday, September 6, 2024.


Target applicant: Residents, fellows and junior faculty physicians interested in pursuing a career path that includes basic, translational, clinical and/or epidemiology research. This course is designed to not only provide a basic level of knowledge but for attendees to develop an individual development plan for further research training.

Experimental Tissue Shared Resource (ETR) Offers Custom Tissue Microarray and Brightfield Whole Slides Scanning


The ETR is excited to discuss your project’s study design and tissue needs. We can now create custom tissue microarrays (TMA) with tissue you provide or human tissue remnants and scan whole histology slides at 40X. Selection of optimal representative tissue regions can be performed by our pathologist. 

 

We can provide histology support for special transcriptomics platforms supported by GTH Share Resource

Internationally recognized cancer expert joins UCI Health as Cancer Center Deputy Director


Internationally recognized cancer expert Dr. Miguel A. Villalona-Calero has joined the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as its deputy director and chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine.
