Updates From Rhode Island LTAP

Meet Our Team!

RIDOT Educational Advancement Unit

The Rhode Island Local Technical Assistance Program (RI LTAP) is a cooperative effort of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration’s Local Technical Assistance Program. The RI LTAP is a part of the RIDOT's Educational Advancement Unit, often referred to as the Training Office.

Our Unit is small with a current staff of 3, pictured above from left to right: Sydney Wagner, RIDOT Training Supervisor, Kathleen Sisson, Director of Educational Advancement, and Jennifer Roman, RI LTAP Program Coordinator. Our small but mighty team works to provide relevant learning opportunities for RIDOT employees and for our local transportation workforce and decision-makers.

The LTAP program’s primary focus is to provide quality and accessible education for the local transportation community in Rhode Island. The training, resources, and technical assistance are provided for Local Public Agency (LPA) employees responsible for the planning, management, and maintenance of our state’s public roadways.

Our collective goal in the Education Advancement Unit is to improve the skills and increase the knowledge of the transportation workforce and transportation decision-makers through targeted training and professional development opportunities. Together with You, we foster a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound surface transportation system in Rhode Island.

Upcoming Classes

Seats are now available to our Rhode Island municipal and tribal partners for the below Summer 2024 classes. These live classes are a mix of in-person and virtual.

To enroll in any of these courses or if you have questions, please email the Rhode Island LTAP at dot.RILTAP@dot.ri.gov. Registration requests must include the participant's name, email address, job title, and contact phone number.

Is there a training or technical assistance you're interested in, but haven't seen advertised? You can now request training and/or technical assistance through Rhode Island LTAP. Just complete this Request Form and email it to us.

Equipment Loan Program

Handheld Retroreflectometers Available

Under the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Rhode Island’s transportation agencies are responsible for maintaining their signs and pavement markings to a minimum level of retroreflectivity and contrast levels for the traveling public.

To help local agencies meet these requirements, the RI LTAP at RIDOT provides local and tribal agencies in Rhode Island equipment for loan at no cost. We offer a RoadVista 922 Handheld Sign Retroreflectometer with an available extension pole and a RoadVista SM3 Pavement Marking Retroreflectometer. Providing the equipment for loan at no cost saves agencies across the state the expense of purchasing equipment that would otherwise be used infrequently.

The RI LTAP is accepting equipment loan requests from local and tribal transportation agencies in Rhode Island by email at dot.RILTAP@dot.ri.gov, or by completing the Handheld Retroreflectometer Request Form that is available either by scanning the QR code to the left or by clicking here: Handheld Retroreflectometer Request Form.

Local agencies are encouraged to take advantage of these items.
