Hello Everybody,
Time to get ready for the Comal County Fair and Parade!
| | |
The fair will be September 25th through the 29th, with the parade going through downtown on Friday the 27th, starting at 9am. If you are a docent on the day of the parade you may want to come in early so that you can get into our parking spaces before it starts. 😊
Thank you to those of you who came out for the potluck last month. It was so great to have a chance for the Ex-Board to share what they have been working on and to answer your questions. The feedback you gave us was fantastic. If you were not able to make it, you missed the Book Sale, Art Exchange, Good Food, & Wonderful Fellowship.

Building Update……. HELP!!!
As you can see the Main Gallery bathroom did not get done last month. Billie, Laraine, and I are totally stumped on how to handle the crumbling wall that is by the toilet. We now feel that we need professional help to make the needed repairs. My issue, and the reason I need help, is that with Two Rivers Plein Air on the horizon I do not have time to hunt for a local contractor or painter to do the job. If you have the skill, talent, or desire to look for a company or workman to do the needed jobs on our building, then please contact me. It would be a great relief to have the help with this; but, if no one comes forward, then these jobs will have to wait until after October and TRPA are over.

TRPA Update
Speaking of Two Rivers Plein Air… We have now reached the ENTRY DEADLINE and have 28 artists for the TRPA event and another 8 outside artists joining us for the Quick Draw. Tickets for the Meet & Mingle are now on sale at the Docent Desk, please purchase your tickets before September 23. We need a headcount to finish our order with Krause’s. For those who came last year we have good news, we have ordered more food and are changing the setting arrangements to handle the crowd.
A manpower schedule has been made and will be posted next week for those who need to make up a workday. I will place it on the door between the gallery and kitchen once the Submission and Reception Teams have finished signing up for their time slots.

Shout out of praise to Seguin Art League
A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by the Seguin Art League to see their gallery and the renovations they have made to their building. Absolutely beautiful! I encourage you to go by and see what a great job they are doing. Like us, they are a 501 c 3 organization started with a very old building that has a lot of needed repairs. When you stop by, be sure to sign their guest book. This helps them with their city’s hot funds. If you live nearby, it would be great if you became a member with them. Several of our members are members there too. They also have a building fund that you could donate to if you would like to help them out. I think it is very important that as artists we support and help each other as much as possible.

Recycle Bubble Wrap
If you are like me, you are getting boxes delivered to you at home. Please recycle any bubble wrap and small boxes that we can use when wrapping artwork that has been sold. Please put the bubble wrap on the wrapping table and the boxes in the basement.
See you guys in the gallery, 😊

NBAL.org
We were able to purchase nbal.org recently, and have it set up to take you directly to thenewbraunfelsartleague.com while saving you 20 characters you don't need to type.
Both urls take you to the same website; nbal.org is just a nice easy-to-remember shortcut!
Online Payments
Back in May, the board made the decision to begin to accept payments online, starting with workshops and memberships. I am happy to report that all our workshops can now be paid with a credit or debit card online! The credit card service is seamlessly embedded into the workshop registration form for a very nice registration and payment experience.
Memberships will more than likely go online after the next Executive Board meeting. And of course, you'll still be able to pay for both with cash or check if that is your preference.

Gallery Update
Vicki Houston,1st VP
msravenhouston@gmail.com
Fall is just around the corner and I know I am ready along with many of you! With only four months left of the year, some of you need to look at your timesheets and make up days that you have missed. All docents are required to work twelve days each year. If your day fell on a holiday, then you still need to work the required twelve days.
We have new jewelry tags for our jewelers. We also have new inventory sheets for our artist inventory and artist tags. They can be downloaded and printed on your own computers. The artist tags and jewelry tags must be on white cardstock, no exceptions. We still provide them in the kitchen area for those who do not want to print them. Emails have been sent with the artist card, inventory and jewelry tags in PDF format to print. If you haven’t received them, please send me an email. You may also get them from our webpage. Larry Johnson has made it easy to download and print. I appreciate his help so much!
Please make sure you follow the directions at the desk for the credit cards and completely fill out the invoices for all sales. Thanks for all you do!

The 2025 Special Show Schedule is complete. We have brought back some favorites and added three new shows. We have “Home Brewed Fantasy”, “Make a Splash” and “A Song in your Art”. Please give serious consideration to co-chairing one of our special shows. In fact, ask one of your art friends to co-chair a show with you and have some fun!! The co-chair’s role is to select the show judge, assist the judge on submissions day and present the awards at the reception. We have an awesome submissions team in place and they will be by your side throughout the process. How do I
know this?!?!? I just started this job as 2nd VP in June and…on Jury Day no less!! They’ve supported me all the way! This team is amazing and works like a well-oiled machine. Thank you, Gerlyn and Submissions Team!!
Reach out to me now, Debbie Cooper, at irongoddess1@gmail.com, and let me know which show you’d like to co-chair.
| | Meet NBAL’s New Workshops Coordinator | |
My name is Waldinei Lafaiete (pronounced "Vow.Gee.Nay"), but everyone knows me as Wally. Originally from Brazil, I’ve called the United States home for over 25 years. My artistic journey is deeply rooted in a passion for encaustic art and assemblage. These mediums allow me to explore the intersection of texture, color, and form in ways that are both tactile and transformative. Encaustic art, with its rich, layered beeswax, invites a meditative process of building and revealing, where each layer tells a story waiting to be uncovered. Assemblage, on the other hand, offers a playground of possibilities as I bring together found objects and materials to create pieces that are not only visually striking but also rich in narrative and history.
| |
In my work, I am drawn to the beauty of imperfection and the stories that fragments can tell. Each object I incorporate has a past, and through my creative process, I give it new life and meaning. My assemblages are often inspired by the idea of transformation - taking some-thing discarded or overlooked and elevating it to a place of significance. This approach resonates deeply with me, as it mirrors the broader human experience of growth, resilience, and renewal. You can explore my work further at www.creativesparks.art.
I am thrilled to take on the role of "Workshop Coordinator" for the New Braunfels Art League and am eager to connect with fellow artists. If you know artists who might be interested in leading workshops, I would love the opportunity to invite them to share their craft with our community. Please feel free to reach out to me via email at waldinei@hotmail.com or by phone at 210-827-8386. Let's collaborate and continue to foster a vibrant and dynamic art community together!

It’s a presidential year and campaigning is in full swing. The NBAL “base” should campaign all year round to promote sales, classes, workshops and recruit new members.
On social media, be a SHARING, LIKING AND TAGGING machine. People you know or meet that have an interest in art, tell them all that we offer. If you meet a newcomer to NB, remind them if they need Art for their new space they can find it at our place. Remind them we have one-of-a-kind, affordable art and gifts. VOTE NBAL!

In case you missed it … WE WON AGAIN! Hey, people know a good thing when they see it!

NBAL Library
Tip for the Month!
The license plate on my mother’s car was “BZY BZY” and she was busy all the time. Aren’t we all! As busy as we are, we still search for answers about the art process and have a great need to stay in the spirit of art.
This month’s Library Tip: look for the famous Walter Foster books in a stack on a lower shelf just below the books on “color”. The Walter Foster publishers condensed huge amounts of information on painting, drawing, anatomy, composition, etc., into large, easy-to-assimilate booklets meant for those who do not have a lot of extra time but are looking for answers about the art process. Just borrow them - the honor system - no need to check them out. Return them to the book drop (near upstairs elevator doors) when finished. Enjoy the amazing information you will find in your NBAL Library.

Librarian
