Triple Respiratory Season

This year we are seeing three respiratory viruses impact the health and wellness of our communities. Historically, influenza has been the one respiratory disease we needed to worry about, but over the last several years, COVID-19 has become the main epidemic. This year, influenza is coming back, COVID-19 remains serious, and respiratory syncytial virus, RSV, is also increasing dramatically.

Both COVID-19 and Influenza have vaccines to help protect against the most serious of complications, including hospitalizations and deaths, but RSV does not.

One thing that can help to protect against all three of these viruses, as well as the common cold, is wearing appropriate, approved masks. Recent research has shown the protective ability of masks. Wearing masks in public, getting vaccinated, and staying up to date with COVID vaccines and boosters as well as this year’s seasonal influenza vaccine can help keep you and our community healthy.

Free COVID antigen tests and a limited supply of influenza vaccines are available at your campus Student Health and Wellness Center.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, designated on December 1 every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations, and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control. For more information about World AIDS Day please visit hiv.gov/events/awareness-days/world-aids-day

ARC Theatre Presents Men on Boats November 25 - December 4

Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. Men on Boats is the true(ish) comedic history of an 1869 expedition set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. With a twist...

The explorers included a one-armed captain and a crew of loyal daredevils and rapscallions, all of whom are being portrayed by female-identifying or non-gender-conforming actors. As the playwright indicates: "The characters in Men on Boats were historically white males. The cast should be made up entirely of people who are not...."

Live performances will be in our small space Stage 2 in the American River College Theatre building, limited seating. Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 72 hours are required. Parking is free at the corner of College Oak and Myrtle.

Ethics Symposium

The 17th Annual CRC and Sac State Fall Ethics Symposium will be Friday, December 2 and this year's topic is "The Ethics of Providing Healthcare."

We want a health care system that is efficient and just, where these criteria are compatible with the idea that anyone who needs care will receive it. But it’s important to pay attention to the supply side — where the specific services will come from and how they will be delivered. Most people think the U.S. does poorly along these lines and that there are ways we could do better. Explore this topic with us and our featured speakers! Get the full day's schedule and RSVP.
