Apply Now for Data Science Grant Program

ARC has received a donation of $20,000 to support projects that investigate integrating data science into academic disciplines. The college has decided to use these funds to provide four awards of up to $5,000 each. Awards are to be used to expose and involve students with data collection, analysis, and interpretation within an academic discipline.

Our world is driven by data! However, in the public sphere, there is a general lack of understanding of how data is collected, analyzed, and interpreted to inform decision making, influence behavioral changes, forecast, and many more applications. Data can be manipulated in ways that negatively impact us or they can be used to drive meaningful change. Therefore, it is imperative that students understand and visualize their world in data. The goal of the Data Science Project Grant is to incorporate aspects of data collection, analysis, and interpretation into your course to empower students to think critically, develop problem-solving skills, formulate probing questions, and draw valid conclusions. To qualify for the grant, your application must meet these criteria:

  1. Proposed project is doable within the scope of time and funds available.
  2. Project involves students with data collection and/or analysis, such as through an experiential learning activity or supporting equipment and software/technology that enhances students’ experiential learning.
  3. Project has the potential to positively impact student success and further the college’s equity goals.
  4. Project is unique or novel to our institution (project is not redundant)
  5. After initial establishment, the project is long-term, sustainable.

Proposals are due by October 24, with awards announced by October 31. Projects must be implemented no later than Spring 2023. A report on projects due end of Spring 2023

To submit an application, complete the Google form at https://forms.gle/1wZRTnRNKWggvyRB9 (you will need to log in via SSO).
