See Something, Say Something

A troubling trend in our world and our community has been a rise in hate-related incidents. Often these incidents come in the form of graffiti or vandalism. This is something we unfortunately experienced recently at ARC when an anti-Semitic symbol of hate was discovered in a campus restroom.

Hate has no home at American River College. We must make a strong, unequivocal stand against all forms of hate. We must also stand in solidarity with and support those who are the victims of hate.

We ask every member of the campus community to help. If you see something, say something. If you see graffiti vandalism or any other sign of hate, contact the Los Rios Police Department at 916-558-2221 so a response can happen as quickly as possible.

We are aware that collegewide notifications about hate-related incidents can be traumatic and painful for those who are targeted by the hate. We also want to limit giving attention to those who seek it out through acts of graffiti or vandalism. Therefore, in the interest of supporting our community and limiting attention for acts of vandalism, we will communicate to the campus community only during special circumstances - for example, if there is an incident that involves a law enforcement investigation.

Thank you.

Stop Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is held each October as a way to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to end domestic violence. Communities and advocacy organizations across the country connect with the public and one another throughout the month to raise awareness about the signs of abuse and ways to stop it, and to uplift survivor stories.

This is a chance for all of us to unite in the work to end domestic violence. We invite advocates, loved ones, supporters, and others to join together in solidarity, and to listen to and uplift survivors directly. With so many people speaking in a unified voice throughout October, we can raise our collective awareness about domestic violence to end abuse for good.
