“Safe housing is essential to health and well-being, yet many of our neighbors face the impossible choice between making critical home repairs and covering everyday expenses,” said Darcy Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County. “Every partnership strengthens our ability to meet the growing needs of our neighbors.” The future impact of the program depends on sustained funding, which determines the number of repairs that can be completed in the community each year.
Since launching in 2011, the Habitat Home Repair Program has supported more than 400 households across Ventura County, completing projects such as roofing, plumbing, flooring, electrical repairs, fencing, and accessibility modifications like grab bars and walk-in showers. In the past 12 months alone, dozens of families have been able to remain safely in their homes thanks to this program — a lifeline in a county ranked the second least affordable county in the nation, according to the 2025 Ventura County Economic Outlook & Forecast created by the Center for Economic Research & Forecasting at California Lutheran University.
“I still feel this is all a dream come true, and I will wake up and discover it couldn't have happened to me. I will be forever grateful. Thank you to all who were involved in this unbelievable effort,” said Karen, a recent recipient of the program.
