Building Community, Strengthening Partnerships:

The Heart of DHIC’s Legacy and Future

For over 50 years, we have been guided by a simple but powerful truth: community and partnerships are at the core of everything we do.

From our beginnings in Southeast Raleigh to serving nine counties in Central and Eastern North Carolina, we've focused on bringing together residents, clients, funders, civic leaders, and organizations to create affordable housing that transforms lives.

One of the ways we cultivate these connections is by opening our doors—literally. Hosting on-site tours provides our partners and funders a vital space for collaboration, strengthening the network of support that makes our work possible. Recently, we’ve had the privilege of welcoming Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Lutheran Services Carolinas, the Triangle Community Foundation’s Affordable Housing Cohort, TD Charitable, and NeighborWorks Capital.

During a recent visit, a visitor admitted, “I didn’t realize how much demand there is—or what it takes to meet it. More people need to see this.”

If you or your organization would like to visit a DHIC community, we’d love to welcome you.

Reach out today to schedule a tour, and read below as we share monthly news from our developments, properties and homeownership center.

Addressing Housing Gaps & Supporting Rural Communities

As spring brings a fresh season of growth, it also brings renewed focus on North Carolina's pressing housing challenges. A recent report highlighted the need for nearly 765,000 additional housing units by 2029 to keep up with population growth.

In response, House Bill 245 has been introduced to support affordable housing development in rural areas by revising the state’s tax credit distribution, prioritizing communities that often lack funding.

These legislative efforts align with our strategic goal of fostering an environment where affordable housing is accessible to all. In the coming months, we look forward to participating in NC Housing Day 2025, Local Housing Lobby Day (Raleigh City Council + Wake County Commission), National NeighborWorks Association Legislative Day, and the Housing Partnership Network Advocacy Day.
