Educational Initiative Spotlight

Artificial Intelligence—Adapting and Evolving Your Course Expectations

As we settle into a new semester, those of us teaching will again be confronted with the ongoing challenges and opportunities that generative AI provides. Over the summer, colleagues from across the campus engaged in further exploration and development of resources to help instructors navigate this ever-evolving space. A newly developed website, Navigating Artificial Intelligence provides helpful reminders and thought exercises to understand how AI tools could be used in your classes, communicate effectively with students about your expectations, and engage with students when those expectations are not met. Beyond the linked resources and CTL workshops and learning communities on the topic, one-on-one support for thinking about how to utilize AI in your classroom is available from Anna Cunningham, CTL assistant director of Teaching Innovation. You may also request that the Office of Academic Integrity facilitate a discussion with you and your students during class about their perceptions of appropriate use of artificial intelligence. Reach out to Andrea Melrose to learn more.
