National Park Service studying bids for major restoration of Cape Lookout Lighthouse


Cape Lookout National Seashore has initiated a comprehensive project to replace the boardwalk leading to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, with restoration of the lighthouse itself underway, anticipating a grand reopening in 2027. The dredging of Barden Inlet is set to commence by April 1, 2024, using high-quality dredged sand for beach reconstruction. Other projects include the replacement of the Lighthouse Ferry Landing Dock in early 2024, rebuilding North Core Cabins post-Hurricane Dorian, Harkers Island Docks repairs starting in February or March, Cape Lookout Life Saving Station rehabilitation in Fall 2024, and the restoration of Coca Cola House & Fishing Cottage #2 for overnight stays by August 2024. Codds Creek Dock and Soundside Trail Dock projects are expected to begin in early February.
