ITS Berkeley laid the foundation for new research and partnership opportunities in Chile with a recent visit from a delegation from the Ministerio de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones, Region del Biobio, and the Universidad del Biobío Chile. We also welcomed Chile's Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and ITS Berkeley alum Juan Carlos Munoz at a Fireside Chat.

Congratulations to DCRP students Jacquelyn Broader, Angie Chen, Mallika Gupta, Katie Heuser, Andre Soucy, Sandra Romero, and Winnie Zhuang on receiving PSR fellowship funds to conduct research for their capstone project. Congratulations to Mohamed Amine Bouzaghrane, Avikam Chauhan, Dawson Do, Aqshems Nichols and Yuneil Yeo who received Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program fellowships. Congratulations to CEE students Wesley Darling, Matthew Hui, Qianhua Luo, and Aqshems Nichols who were selected for the UC Berkeley's Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award! Congratulations to Wesley Darling on being named NICR Student of the Year. Congratulations to CEE doctoral candidates Ziad Yassine and Zhe Fu, who were recently awarded the CTF Supported ITSCA Scholarship.

ITS Berkeley celebrated Award Winners Aug. 16, 2023 at the Richmond Field Station with an awards ceremony, lunch, an open house at the new TechTransfer office at the Richmond Field Station, a NextCar display, and a tour of the UC Pavement Research Center.

Dr. Adolf D. May, Professor Emeritus of CEE, passed away Aug. 16, 2023. He was 96 years old. Professor May pioneered the science of Highway Transportation in Civil Engineering, creating and receiving the first Ph.D. in the field in 1952 at Purdue University. May was passionate about his work as a researcher and educator, retiring from UC Berkeley after nearly four decades of service.
