Good news is on the horizon for airline passengers who dread delays and cancellations disrupting their travel plans, thanks to a new round of funding from NASA focusing on resilience. Researchers from the ITS Berkeley, other universities, and industry will explore how the National Airspace System can be more resilient when major storms, facility outages, and other technical issues disrupt airline flight operations. Read more

UC Berkeley’s Transportation Graduate Students Organizing Committee (TRANSOC) was recently invited by California High-Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) for a user testing session with their design team. On Jan. 26, 2024, students took an Amtrak to HSRA headquarters in Sacramento to tour, test, and provide invaluable feedback on the HSRA’s model high-speed train; travel costs were graciously funded by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center.

Institute of Transportation Studies Berkeley faculty, researchers, and students travelled to Washington DC Jan. 7-10, 2024 for the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting. Over 90 representatives from ITS Berkeley and Berkeley Lab had their research represented in 51 posters, presentations, committee meetings, and sessions. Read more
