Grandparent Connect

Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:00 PM Eastern

Grandparent Connect meets the 4th Thursday of every month.

A welcoming space for grandparents of children with JM to learn from one another, share experiences, and stay connected.

Walk Strong Across America

Grandparents know there is nothing more powerful than showing up for a grandchild.

This summer we've launched Walk Strong Across America, and we invite grandparents across the country to take part in a nationwide movement supporting children and families affected by juvenile myositis. The best part? You can participate wherever you are, whether that's a walk through your neighborhood, around a local park, on a favorite trail, or even with family and friends close to home.

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, help ensure your state is represented while raising awareness, inspiring hope, and supporting a brighter future for children living with JM.

Will your state be represented?

Leilani's Story of Hope

"Seeing our daughter surrounded by a community that believes in a brighter future reminds us that we are never fighting this battle alone."

For the Ortiz-Meza family, hope comes from community, connection, and the belief that progress is possible.

As they represent California in Walk Strong Across America, they share their family's journey, what keeps them motivated, and their vision for a future free from JM.

Grandparent GEMs

Grandparent GEMs are on a roll — more grandparents are giving monthly and strengthening the research and care families depend on. Want to join them? Details below.

Walk Strong to Cure JM

Small Steps. Big Impact.

Cure JM families and friends come together across the country to take meaningful steps toward better treatments and a cure for juvenile myositis. When we walk together, we celebrate strength, hope, and the power of community.

Family Days

Family Days offer JM families a chance to learn from experts, connect with other families, and feel supported by a caring community. These events include medical updates, family‑to‑family conversations, and time to build relationships that last.

Grandparents are encouraged to attend, even if their family lives in another state or is unable to attend. Many grandparents have found Family Day to be a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

IRA Giving

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Cure JM. A QCD generally counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), if one is required, while allowing you to support research and families affected by juvenile myositis without including the gift in your taxable income.

Many grandparents find this to be one of the simplest and most tax-efficient ways to make a meaningful impact.

Visit our new IRA Giving resource page to learn more, or consult your financial or tax advisor to determine whether a QCD is right for you.
