December is packed full of Christmas cheer in Covington!

Covington Lions Club Christmas Parade

Saturday, December 7 • 10:00 a.m.

Downtown Covington Square



Here come the decorated floats by area businesses, churches and other organizations, along with equestrian riders, dancers, marching bands and more! Covington Lions Club has hosted the Covington Christmas Parade for years, and it is one of the largest Christmas parades east of Atlanta! The parade route begins on Newton Drive heading west and winds onward to the Covington Square, circling the old streets, and back to Newton Drive. This festive community event is hosted by the Covington Lions Club and City of Covington.

Covington Mistletoe Market in Lights at Legion

Saturday, December 7 • 6:00-9:30 p.m.



Pull your sleighs into the Lights at Legion kickoff to be the first to see the Christmas trees decorated by community organizations and families. The evening opens with shopping at the Covington Mistletoe Market for artisan gifts. Plus, enjoy food truck menu options, and a visit with Santa.

Christmas with the Oxford Singers

Enjoy the Oxford Singers, a group of auditioned choirs for grades K-12. The choir consists of students from dozens of schools and surrounding counties. Tickets $5 to $20

The Nutcracker with Covington Regional Ballet

Is it Christmas without The Nutcracker? Covington Regional Ballet is the dance division of the Arts Association in Newton County's Young Artists Programs. CRB presents three remarkable productions annually including The Nutcracker. Tickets $5 to $25


December 16

Sounds of the Holidays with Newton County Community Band

Now in its 25th season, the Newton County Community Band is a group of 60 volunteer musicians ranging from high schoolers to seniors. The band presents free community concerts throughout the year. Free.

Twilights at Chimney Park

Sunday, December 8 • 5:00-7:30 p.m.

8201 Hazelbrand Rd., Covington



Be part of a joyful Christmas event held annually during the Twilights at Chimney Park, where access to play in a natural setting is made possible for all regardless of ability. Chimney Park will be strung with thousands of colorful lights, creating an atmosphere of festivity – lights are on nightly until Dec. 31. Enjoy holiday carols by local choruses and a s’mores fire. Santa will join the celebration and meet with young wishers and families for photos. Refreshments are graciously donated by local community groups.


Donations: $5 per person; max for families with 2 adults $25; children under 2 are free. Newton County Parks and Recreation and the nonprofit Friends of Newton Parks are stewards of our Covington parks.

Ice Days + Food Truck Fridays

Open Daily Through February 17, 2025

Legion Field • 3173 Mill St. NE



Skate on real ice in two-hour skating sessions anytime. No waiting in queues! The rink and spectator area are covered, so you can skate rain or shine, warm or cold. On Fridays December 13, 20, and 27, fabulous food trucks will be at Legion Field. You can also visit the Ice Days Snack Bar for nachos, hot dogs, hot chocolate, and candies (while even keeping your skates on!).

Reindeer on the Square

Thursday, December 19 • 6:00-8:00 p.m.



Santa will be on the Covington Square with some very special guests – two of his reindeer! They’re making a stop in Covington before the busy night of December 24 (Petting is not allowed so that everyone stays calm and safe). Get your grandchildren, children and nieces and nephews together for a meetup with Santa to share wishes, take photos, and enjoy a polar-style kind of evening.
