Celebrate Late Summer in Covington!

Wind up your Summer with Food, Films, Fitness and more this August!

As summer deepens, so does our commitment to seek and find live music in the warm evening breezes. Come out and enjoy the Roots Concert with King Rollers opening for Noah Teal & Friends. Live at Legion concerts are free and begin at 7 pm. Bring a lawn chair, invite your friends and visit food vendors! Presented by the Community Arts Association in Newton County, Discover Covington, and City of Covington. Live at Legion continues … save the dates for Electric Avenue (Sep. 13) and Uptown Funk (Oct. 11)!

From loam to linen, and dill to dinner plate, Farmers Markets bring us the best from our lands, waters, and hands. Gather your friends and bring your bags for fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, baked goods, honey, locally raised flowers, spices, natural body care products and more! The market is held most Saturdays until mid-October.

Cinema Saturday features two FREE movies on the Square starting at 6 pm. Arrive early to visit the stores around town. Enjoy appetizers or dinner before you settle in for the screenings of two fabulous films, Toy Story and Barbie. Bring a blanket, to-go or home-packed picnic, and chairs for coziness and comfort.

It's National Back to School Month and with students returning to the classroom, August can provide a time of reflection and renewed commitment. Here are a few ideas for how “Back to School” can be the perfect opportunity to pursue your own passions.

Join the Newton County Community Band! Weekly rehearsals with volunteers (seniors in high school to any age) practice for community performances throughout the year.

Why the cute name? The Southern cricket frog is a frog with a stripe of color running down its back and has a call that sounds more like a cricket! Roll and stroll along the Cricket Frog Trail – a rail-trail that runs through central Newton County along a once-active rail line. Beginning on Washington Street, the trail passes north of Covington Square. It bends south and twists through 12+ miles of woods, scenic pastures and farmland before reaching Mansfield. The trail is currently in two halves, defined by a trestle bridge over the Alcovy River that will be restructured this fall to offer 14 continuous paved miles. Public parking for the western segment: Use parking deck at 1166 Elm St. NE.
