Angel to be recognized during President's Opening Plenary Session at GSA 2023


After opening remarks, GSA will recognize the 2023 recipients of its most prestigious honors: Dr. Kathleen Wilber (Donald P. Kent Award), Dr. David Almeida (Robert W. Kleemeier Award) and Dr. Jacqueline Angel (James Jackson Outstanding Mentorship Award).

Gaydosh featured in American Journal of Public Health podcast


Lauren Gaydosh and Steven H. Woolf (Virginia Commonwealth University) were the guests on a recent episode of the AJPH Podcast. They discussed the concerning decline in life expectancy in the United States compared to other countries, with hosts Alfredo Morabia and Vickie Mays.

Funding Opportunity


The Social, Behavioral, & Economic COVID Coordinating Center (SBE CCC) solicits applications for pilot projects for innovative measurement of social, behavioral, and economic indicators that are important correlates and consequences of the COVID pandemic.


Two award sizes are available: 1) Larger projects over $30,000 and up to $60,000 in total costs (direct + indirect), 2) Smaller projects up to $30,000 in total costs (direct + indirect). 


While not required, preference will be given to proposals that involve current SBE COVID Consortium members


Important dates:

  • December 1, 2023: Proposals due
  • December 22, 2023: Awards announced
  • March 1, 2024: Projects start
  • February 28, 2025: Projects end

Postdoc Opportunities


UT Austin / Baylor University

Jared Benge (UT, Neurology, CAPS) and Mike Scullin (Baylor, Psychology and Neuroscience) have the first of two research post doc positions opened. A second position at UT will be open soon. The positions will support a newly funded R01 looking at smartphone usage and memory aides and prospective memory functioning in dementia/MCI.


UM Population Studies Center

The Populations Studies Center T32 Training Programs, located at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, is looking to fill two postdoctoral fellowship positions with appointments beginning on or about September 1, 2024.  One fellowship will be sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and one will be sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). In this episode, Matt & Donovan dive into the newest FDA-approved drug to treat Alzheimer’s – Lecanemab – with Ohio State University stroke neurologist and health services researcher Jim Burke. Dr. Burke discusses the benefits and drawbacks of the new Alzheimer’s drug and also the paradigm shift of how people (clinicians, patients, and the general population) are thinking about these new Alzheimer’s medications.
