Newly Released Video: ILPMP Overview

ILPMP / PMPnow Directors Attend National Assocation of State Controlled Substance Authorities Conference

Sarah Pointer, ILPMP Clinical Director (Right) and Jennifer Erickson, PMPnow Director (Left), attended the National Association of State Controlled Substances Authorities Conference (NASCSA) that took place October 23 -26, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The purpose of the National Association of State Controlled Substances Authorities is to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of information and ideas, to develop, implement and monitor ongoing strategies and to curtail the abuse, misuse and diversion of controlled substances.

Legislation Update

Public Act 103-0425

Exemptions/Waivers to E-Prescribing Mandate – All healthcare professionals who write prescriptions for controlled substances must, on January 1, 2024, provide those prescriptions electronically.

Public Act 102-1038

No individual or group policy of accident and health insurance amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after January 1, 2024, that provides coverage for naloxone hydrochloride shall impose a copayment on the coverage provided, except that this subsection does not apply to coverage of naloxone hydrochloride to the extent such coverage would disqualify a high-deductible health plan from eligibility for a health savings account under Section 223 of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program (ILPMP) is an electronic database that collects, tracks, and stores reported dispensing data on Schedule II-V controlled substances, selected drugs of interest, and other health information. The Illinois Department of Human Services oversees the ILPMP, authorized by the Illinois Controlled Substances Act (720 ILCS 570/316). The ILPMP adheres to HIPAA and all access, disclosure, and confidentiality provisions of Illinois Law.
