Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program
Update - April 2025
| | Ensuring Accuracy in ILPMP Data Submissions: A Critical Responsibility for Pharmacies and Dispensing Prescribers | | |
The ILPMP is an electronic database that collects, tracks, and stores reported dispensing data on Schedule II-V controlled substances, selected drugs of interest, and other health information in which ensures safety in prescribing, dispensing, and aids in combating prescription drug misuse.
The Importance of Accurate Data Submission
The ILPMP team is enhancing its approach to reporting error compliance by initiating direct outreach to submitters through phone calls and emails when error corrections are not completed. While compliance with error correction has always been required, this proactive communication effort is designed to support submitters in understanding the significance of correcting errors and warnings within submitted prescription data. Our goal is to maintain data integrity through improved collaboration and timely resolution. Accurate and timely reporting to the ILPMP is essential. Pharmacies and dispensing prescribers are required to submit dispensing data by the end of each business day. This ensures that the ILPMP database remains current, allowing prescribers to assess patient 12-month prescription history to support clinical decision making.

-
Pharmacy / Dispensing Prescriber Responsibility: A dispenser who notices an error in a prescription they have dispensed and transmitted shall retract the incorrect prescription and retransmit the prescription correctly within 7 days after discovery of the error.
