Petex Donates Over $2.7 Million in Software to Dept. of Geosciences
Geosciences students and faculty at Idaho State University can get their hands on some of the industry’s state-of-the-art software thanks to a donation by Petroleum Experts (Petex).

Besides rooting for Team USA at the World Cup, Mustafa Mashal, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, recently visited the Ain Shams University and The British University in Egypt as part of the Fulbright U.S. Scholar program.
Mashal presented his research to students and faculty and learned about their programs. So far, he’s visited six universities in New Zealand, Qatar, Kuwait, and Egypt and plans to visit several more in 2023.

Staff Professional Development Applications Open
Staff Council has opened its spring 2023 professional development applications. The professional development award can help pay for registration, conferences, workshops, training, travel, and non-ISU classes.
All full-time Idaho State classified and non-classified staff who have completed at least six months of service can apply.
Applications are due by February 28, 2023, for activities between January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2023.

Emeritus Recommendations Due Dec. 20
Emeritus recommendations are due to the Dean's Office by December 20.
Recommendations must include a letter from the department chair and a curriculum vitae.

Nominations Sought for Distinguished Faculty
Nominations are being sought for three of the annual awards for Idaho State University faculty members. Those recognized will be honored during a reception in April and during the 2023 Commencement exercises.
Nominations for the Distinguished Teacher, Service, and Researcher are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 3.

Deb Easterly to Retire
Deb Easterly, assistant vice president for research is retiring after more than 26 years of service at ISU. Deb started at ISU in May 1996 as Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs and moved around the Office for Research, ending up as Assistant VPR. During her time at ISU, she received master's and doctoral degrees. Please send her an email or stop by the BTC, room 107, to chat anytime between now and Dec 23.

The College of Science and Engineering Dean's Excellence Fund is intended to support students in their journey through ISU. The Dean's Office is particularly interested in providing financial assistance to students who might not be able to enroll in or complete the semester because of short-term financial hardships. Students seeking such support should be in good academic standing.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Set Jan. 16
The Idaho State University Diversity Resource Center invites the campus and community to join them on Monday, January 16, 2023, for its annual celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with a march from Holt Arena to the Stephen’s Performing Arts Center. The march will be followed by a program at the center, consisting of music and reflections on Dr. King’s legacy.

You are always welcome to create a draft story, submit it via the Story Submission Form, or send it to Logan. The Office of Marketing and Communications and Logan will coordinate to get the story finalized and distributed to the media outlets/platforms that best tell the story.
