National Homelessness

Awareness Month

It may still be September, but November - National Homelessness Awareness Month - is just around the corner.

With homelessness on the rise in Arlington, we need to take action now. The 2025 Point-in-Time Count found a 12% increase in homelessness in Arlington compared to 2024, with about 32% of those experiencing homelessness over the age of 55.

PathForward responded by serving more than 475 neighbors: nearly 48,000 meals, over 2,300 medical visits, and housing for 91 people.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the end of November so we can continue providing housing, healthcare, stability, and hope.

Will you help us get there?

Meet Roger Maloney,

Peer Support Specialist

Roger’s journey with PathForward began when he was a client, navigating his own challenges of homelessness.

Today, he stands on the other side of that experience, bringing hope and positivity to everyone he meets—and we’re so fortunate to have him on our team.

Now, as a PathForward Peer Support Specialist and facilitator, Roger leads daily groups, classes, and one-on-one sessions with clients, always rooted in dignity and respect. His lived experience allows him to connect deeply, offering encouragement and a vision of what’s possible.

“My favorite moments,” Roger shares, “are when a client comes to me with a huge smile and says, ‘Guess what, Roger? I was just approved for an apartment!’ That joy is unforgettable.”

We’re grateful for the compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment Roger brings to our clients.

Fun Fact:

Before joining PathForward, Roger was a college model!

Street Outreach Expands

to Seven Days a Week

PathForward's street outreach team is now on the streets seven

days a week.

We deliver clothing, bagged meals, water and medical care directly to those who need it most.

We also utilize these connections to educate others about our long-term services, encouraging clients to come to the center.

By meeting people where they are, we’re building trust and opening doors to stability.

Here’s how you can help: If you see someone in Arlington who may be experiencing homelessness and needs support, you can call our outreach team: 703-615-3114, 7am – 3pm; 703-228-7803, 8am – 4pm. After business hours, please call 703-228-1010. If someone is experiencing a medical emergency or is in immediate danger, please call 9-1-1.

What is the Homelessness Prevention Program?

Did you know that preventing homelessness is one of the most

effective ways to end it?

PathForward’s Homelessness Prevention Programs provide:

  • Rental assistance to help cover back rent or upcoming payments
  • Utility assistance to prevent service shut-offs

By acting early, we reduce risk and build the path to lasting stability.
