Agency for All
Improving Health & Well-Being by Increasing Power to Act

Agency for All is a five-year (2022-2027) USAID-funded project generating evidence on the role of agency in effective social and behavior change programming to improve health and well-being for individuals and communities.

“We’re looking at the complex questions of ‘agency,’ and what that means for different people, organizations, and systems around the world—and for our own consortium partners,” said Project Director, Rebecka Lundgren. “We want to discover what works to convert intention into action and make it work for real people.”

Our work will advance cross-sector development outcomes including family planning and reproductive health, maternal, newborn, and child health, nutrition, infectious disease, and HIV/AIDS. As part of our overall approach, we will develop culturally relevant constructs of agency, strengthen the evidence on approaches to foster empowerment, prioritize local voices, and increase the agency of partners across our consortium ecosystem to generate and utilize evidence.

Agency for All is committed to advancing principles of inclusion and participation in locally-led research, monitoring, and evaluation.

“These locally-led partnerships are critical,” said Paul Bukuluki, PhD, Director of Research for Agency for All and an associate professor at Makerere University. “Context-specific mechanisms for measuring agency and more effectively evaluating approaches will help us improve the quality of life of people at the margins of society.”
