This will be a brief news update as we restart the newsletter cycle for 2024.

Let's start with bullet points of local news.

  • Area schools are letting out for summer. If you are hiring for full time, part time or odd jobs, we can help you advertise your job opening (for free). Check out our Hillsboro area jobs board of major employers at this link, or add your open position for free here.

  • The City of Hillsboro held a special public meeting on water rates last Thursday at Historic City Hall. The water rate topic has been addressed in numerous recent city council meetings, with presentations and Q&A sessions covering how rates will need to be raised to address current costs, proper maintenance, and future needs of providing water. To attend public meetings in Hillsboro, you can visit these links to get more information on when meetings occur, and the agendas:

  • The Hillsboro Economic Development Corporation and City of Hillsboro have announced the hiring of Jessica Trew as the new executive director of the HEDC. Jessica comes to Hillsboro after most recently serving as the senior director of business attraction with the Greater San Marcos Partnership economic development organization. She brings eight years of experience in economic development, and has worked closely with Arthur ("Art") Mann on projects in preparation for his retirement on Friday, May 24th 2024, with a reception to be held at Historic City Hall from 4-6 pm.

To send Jessica a welcome note to her new city email address, please email

jtrew@hillsborotx.org.

  • The outlet mall location being revitalized into "restaurant row" remains one of our favorite projects to watch this year. While we haven't seen any activity yet, we look forward to news (and views) of demolition and construction in the Interstate 35 corridor of Hillsboro coming soon.

  • Hillsboro Country Club has been making improvements to the clubhouse, replacing flooring and fixtures in the dining room and entry, following many improvements last year to the pool and other areas. As one of the larger spaces for parties and events in the Hillsboro, we look forward to seeing the planned additional upgrades in the next few months, including new tables and chairs in the large dining area.

  • Speaking of the Country Club.... Hillsboro Country Club and other golf courses in our area have had a myriad of golf tournament cancellations this spring due to rainy weather, and the resulting wet course conditions. The Chamber Golf Classic that was originally scheduled for Friday, May 10th 2024 has been moved to Friday, June 14th. Golf tournament play for the am and pm golf flights are full, and players will enjoy shooting the GOLF CANNON provided by Patriot Golf, BBQ lunch and optional dinner options by Tony's Backyard BBQ, and an evening patio concert open to the public featuring the Brazos Brothers band - starting at 6pm.

  • If you have had your nose to the grindstone and haven't looked up lately, you might have missed that we are significantly picking up the pace in activity across the board in our area. New housing, new shops in downtown, and other signs of growth and expansion are taking shape almost faster than we can track it. This is an incredibly exciting time to be in Hillsboro and Hill County.

  • Staying informed and connected locally has big benefits for every type of business and family here. While we post news and updates as often as we are able, there is no substitute for the information included in the weekly Reporter Newspaper, which covers all of Hill County. We want to encourage all businesses who are able, to subscribe and place the newspaper in break rooms and common areas, as this helps owners, managers and employees understand and have access to local information and events that are impactful to our area businesses and workforce.
