President’s Note

Welcome to our first electronic newsletter of 2026. Spring is (finally) in bloom here in Cleveland, and I am excited at the prospects of this organization for the coming year. In the first three months of the year, we have eclipsed last year’s pace for the number of alumni who have donated to the alumni association; however, we are falling behind last year’s pace in terms of dollars raised. We’ve kept up The Lodge in the good condition it deserves and have continued to support our terrific brothers of our undergraduate chapter. We appreciate your donations and support in pursuit of these goals this year and into the future. Please share this newsletter and the good news within it with your fellow brothers. Most importantly, please join us at our Reunion Weekend in Gambier, October 2–4! More details to follow in our next newsletter!

In the bonds,

James Asimes ’11

Best Wishes to Our Graduating Seniors

Lambda graduated 14 members this spring. Their contributions to Lambda, as we solidify our brotherhood and reestablish our presence on campus, will certainly not be forgotten. They are set to make an impact outside of Kenyon, as all graduating members have a job or graduate school lined up, with fields ranging from investment banking and paralegal work to biology research, Teach for America, and consulting. No matter where life takes them, they will always have a home within Lambda and a brotherhood that’s one call away.

Here’s where the class of ’26 is headed:

Luciano Julian Barrera, international studies & Spanish, Manhattan, NY

We’re Back

From the not so distant past, when a handful of passionate and dedicated undergraduates refused to go quietly into the night, to this: we give you the spring 2026 photo of the incredible men who have found their way to Lambda. As David Griffith ’76 said when he saw this picture, “Clicks.”

The Mystic Circle

We are saddened to share the passing of Brother Dan Mechem ’82 into the Mystic Circle of ΔΚΕ.

Dan was a political science major and student body president. After graduation, he worked briefly as press secretary for John McCain before becoming an Emmy-winning investigative television reporter in Philadelphia. He founded a production company that supplied services for ESPN and Sesame Street, among others. He ran Intellisink’s entertainment division and was VP and general manager of Nielsen's Buzzmetrics media and entertainment division for seven years. By 2018, he was executive VP of PositronVR, working with major movie studios and Steven Spielberg. He also cofounded SknVue, a nonprofit organization aimed at combating skin cancer.

Memorializing the Ties that Bind

Alumni board member Peter Bianchi ’78 was in Quincy, Illinois, the hometown and final resting place for a beloved Lambda brother, Jeff Spear ’78. While there, he visited Jeff’s headstone and, noting a layer of dust, took the opportunity to write “ΔΚΕ” with his finger. He then visited Jeff’s wife, Theresa, and told her what he had done. She smiled and said, “We’ll have to look into that.”

And, she and the family did, as evidenced by this recent addition to Jeff’s headstone.

Go Cubs. Go ΔΚΕ.

Reunion Weekend

To be sure, it’s not all the ΔΚΕs who attended Kenyon’s Reunion Weekend, but we scored this shot of (L–R) Steve Balaban, Bill Geist, and Steve Alex (all ’76) in the front Bullseye. If you have shots from Reunion Weekend with your ΔΚΕ brothers, please forward them to bill@billgeist.com, and we’ll include them in our next communique.
