Welcome Back

This month we are very excited to open the search for our next Executive Director. We are seeking a visionary who will work to serve you, our beloved network of parents, providers, and community supporters.

Could you be our next ED?

Hot off the presses we are pleased to share the job announcement for our next Executive Director! We are seeking a leader who shares our commitment to supporting families through this transformational time of life. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nonprofit leader to work alongside our dedicated staff, board members, and dozens of volunteers to make a lasting impact on families and communities across Washington state as they transition into parenthood.

To apply, follow the directions outlined in the job announcement HERE. We are proud to partner with Clover Search Works, who will be fielding applications. Applications received by October 31 will be given full consideration; early applications are strongly encouraged!

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

If you or someone you care about has lost a child to stillbirth, miscarriage, SIDS, or any other cause at any point during pregnancy or infancy, please join us in raising awareness this October for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness (PAIL) Month. Our Warm Line is available to provide resources and just listen. One resource includes our monthly Perinatal Loss Support Groups, listed below. We also refer to partner organizations that specialize in inclusive support for anyone whose life has been touched by loss, including infertility, secondary infertility, miscarriage, ending a wanted pregnancy, stillbirth, infant or toddler death, loss through surrogacy, and failed adoption.

We currently offer 4 Perinatal Loss Support Groups, both online and in-person.

In-Person Parent Support Group:

  • Third Wednesdays 7:30 p.m. In-person at Seattle Children’s Hospital in the Anna Clise Board Room – RB 3.614. Contact: Casey at Casey.Raker@gmail.com.

Other Resources:

An Interview with Addelle Diedesch, PERC Program Manager -Skagit County

We spoke with our Skagit County Parent Resilience Program Manager about what sets the program apart, goals, and recent expansion.

"Skagit County's PERC program has expanded to meet the needs of the Latinx and rural communities. We offer more direct, in-home, and in-person visits to support families, along with strong advocacy and outreach efforts. The program is deeply involved with community organizations and task forces, focusing on increasing awareness of perinatal mental health at the local level."

Join us for the 23rd Annual Walk to Remember, a healing event for those who have experienced perinatal loss.

The Walk to Remember will be held at Gene Coulon Park in Renton on Sunday, October 13th beginning at 10:30 am with registration beginning on site at 9:30 am.

This is a very meaningful, memorable, and important community-building event for those who have suffered from perinatal loss.

There is no fee to attend but donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

As stated by Parent Support of Puget Sound:

"In every step, we carry the love and memories of those we hold dear. Together, we walk, we remember, and we honor."

Come join our team of amazing Warm Line volunteers!

Dates & Time: November 16 & 17, 9:00am - 1:45pm

Location: Zoom

Every day our volunteers provide a lifeline to parents who are struggling and feeling alone. Talking to another parent who has been through it reduces the isolation and stigma that many new parents feel. That is why we need you! We are looking for volunteers to offer support, find resources, share stories, and to just listen. We provide all the training and guidance needed to volunteer.

If you have any questions or want to learn more before filling out the volunteer application, please contact the Warm Line Program Manager at Victoria.cherniak@perinatalsupport.org

"I felt very isolated postpartum and craved community. Being a Warm Line volunteer allows me to extend community and resources to women like myself. I’m able to assist women in a way I wish I could have helped myself."

-Emily, Warm Line Volunteer

It's Hispanic Heritage Month!

Did you know that we offer materials in multiple languages and have a dedicated section in Spanish on our website? Our programs, such as the Parent Resilience Program, Therapy, and Warm Line, all have Spanish-speaking staff and provide culturally matched support for Latinx people.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day!

Every year on October 10th, we celebrate World Mental Health Day to raise awareness and help break down mental health stigma. This year's theme is "Mental Health at Work," which intends to spread the message of incorporating healthy workplace initiatives worldwide. Learn more from the World Federation of Mental Health HERE.

Here at PS-WA we offer mental health days, frequent wellness breaks, and weekly appointment time for staff. Small changes like these can make a big difference when we center our health and well-being.
