The Riverworks Financial Clinic has launched a new Legacy Planning Program to help Milwaukee residents safeguard their assets and build intergenerational wealth. Offered through the City of Milwaukee Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in partnership with the CFE Fund, the program provides free, one-on-one support with organizing assets, reviewing insurance and titles, updating beneficiaries, and connecting to resources for wills or power of attorney documents. Safe and Sound: Milwaukee’s Good Neighbor Grant Fund

The City of Milwaukee has launched the Good Neighbor Grant Fund, offering $250–$500 mini-grants to support resident-led projects that promote safety and connection like block cleanups, gardens, and community events. Applications for the grant funding open Oct. 1. They can be made in-person at Safe and Sound’s office, 4422 W. Leon Terrace, or online at www.safesound.org. WHEDA’s 2026 Competitive Housing Tax Credit Program will open for Project Concept Submissions on November 6, 2025, with applications due by December 5, 2025, at 5 PM Visit the program page for more information.


WHEDA’s Fall 2025 Competitive Loan Applications for the Restore Main Street, Vacancy-to-Vitality, and Infrastructure Access Loan Programs open October 21. Applications due on Friday November 21. Developers and governmental units must submit a Procorem WorkCenter request by Nov 14. Learn more.

Community Development Block Grants Still Fuel Small Businesses. For 50 years, Community Development Block Grants (CDBGs) have helped local communities support small businesses, affordable housing, and neighborhood improvements. Though funding has declined over time, programs like Vermont’s Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity continue using CDBG dollars to help entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses. Chinese Laundry Era gets first historical marker in Milwaukee

Anna Moy Wong, with the Organization of Chinese Americans Wisconsin Chapter, said the Wisconsin Historical Society provided an opportunity to tell stories of underserved populations whose histories have never been shared before. The organization received two markers through the William Pomeroy Foundation, with the Laundry Era marker installed at the YWCA. Read more here.

Home Prices Hit Near-Record Highs

U.S. home prices have climbed to five times the median household income, nearing historic peaks, according to Harvard’s State of the Nation’s Housing report. Since 2019, prices have risen 48%, while incomes grew only 22%, making homeownership increasingly out of reach for many families.


Legal Action of Wisconsin offers free walk-in legal clinics to help renters with housing issues such as evictions, termination notices, and unsafe living conditions. SEWRPC Community Engagement Plan for Public Comment Open

The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission invites feedback on its updated Community Engagement Plan, which guides how the Commission communicates, gathers input, and integrates community perspectives into regional planning. The draft plan is available at www.sewrpc.org/Draft-CEP, and comments are welcome through Friday, November 21, 2025. Feedback can be submitted online, by email at engage@sewrpc.org, or by mail to P.O. Box 1607, Waukesha, WI 53187-1607.


The Wisconsin DATCP offers free, ready-to-use digital toolkits with presenter guides, PowerPoints, infographics, newsletter articles, posters, and fun activities like word scrambles and crosswords.
