Daniel Hoan Foundation Announces Innovation in Government Winners

The Daniel Hoan Foundation has announced the 2025 Innovation in Government contest winners, recognizing ideas that improve housing and public services in Milwaukee. Winner Montavius Jones (Navarte) proposed reforms to make building ADUs more accessible and affordable.

Action Alert: Support Housing TIF Bill (AB 451)

WEDA is urging support for Assembly Bill 451, which would create a new Housing Tax Incremental District to help communities expand owner-occupied housing while limiting financial risk to local governments. The bill passed the Assembly with strong bipartisan support and is being considered by the Senate. Please email your State Senator today to urge support for AB 451 and find your Senator here.


Eviction Defense Project: Jan–March 2026 Court Calendar

The EDP provides same-day, in-person legal representation for eviction return dates at the courthouse every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Services prioritize clients with eviction hearings that day in Room 400; all potential clients should arrive at Room 406 by 12:30 PM. Share the calendar and flyer with your network! 


Interest-Free Loans Help Milwaukeeans Move Toward Homeownership

The Milwaukee Jewish Free Loan Association’s Debt Reduction Loan Fund was recently highlighted, which offers interest-free loans to help residents pay down high-interest debt and qualify for homeownership. Available countywide and open to people of all faiths, the program partners with local housing agencies to remove financial barriers and build wealth. Read more.

Mental Health Improvement Fund: Letter of Intent Opens January 30

The MHCP Mental Health Improvement Fund, led by Milwaukee Health Care Partnership and United Way, will open Letters of Intent on January 30, 2026. One-time grants of up to $50,000 are available to Milwaukee County nonprofits expanding access to mental health and substance use services, with priority given to equity-focused organizations. 2026 VITA Support Fund RFP Now Open

Prosperity Now, in partnership with the Wells Fargo Foundation, has launched the 2026 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Support Fund RFP. A total of $200,000 will be awarded to support IRS-certified VITA programs providing free tax preparation nationwide. Application deadline: January 27, 2026. Full press release.
