UEDA 2026 Emerging Topics Series - Session 2: Public Transportation Matters

The next Emerging Topic Series event is Thursday, August 20th at 9AM and will focus on this important moment for public transit in our community. Register Here!


Take Root Milwaukee is hosting a homebuyer counselors gathering on August 5 at noon. The desire to have housing counselors gather and meet one another came up during our annual planning sessions. We felt that it would be impactful, particularly for homebuyer coaches to share with and learn from one another. This is our inaugural gathering of this group and are hoping to do more of them in the future. 

UEDA Member Highlights

Acts Housing 2025 Annual Report is here! Last year, they helped 367 families become homeowners, reclaimed 105 distressed properties, and provided financial education to 2,096 families—continuing to expand access to safe, affordable homeownership across our community. Data You Can Use recently launched the DYCU Data Hub, a free online resource that makes community data more accessible. Explore datasets, reports, visualizations, and tools designed to support grant writing, program planning, research, storytelling, and community decision-making. Check out the Hub and their Getting Started guide to begin exploring the data available.    


Visit Milwaukee released their 2025 Annual Report, highlighting efforts that helped drive Milwaukee's visitor economy forward. Milwaukee accounted for 15% of all visitor spending statewide, an impact of over $4 billion! Read more


The Latino Chamber of Southeast Wisconsin is looking for Sponsors and Speakers for the 11th Annual Wisconsin Latino Economic UnSummit. It will take place October 1-2 in Racine. Topics could include business growth, the use of AI to innovate, access to capital, procurement, leadership, workforce strategies, marketing, financial management, taxation, health care and wellness, etc. Learn more.


From MKE County, Milwaukee homeowners and renters affected by the April 13–23 storms and flooding may now be eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance. The funding can help cover eligible disaster-related expenses, but residents must submit an application through FEMA, even if they have already reported damage to their municipality or participated in a damage assessment. WEDC is kicking off FY27 with new webinars on a variety of programs that fund small business technical assistance, support regional consortia to boost entrepreneurship, community development investment programs, international market access grants, and more. UEDA Community

The National Council of Nonprofits successfully challenged proposed changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. A federal court ruled that the U.S. Department of Education cannot restrict PSLF eligibility for qualifying nonprofit and public service employees beyond what Congress established. The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) recently released a handout explaining what the new presidential order on ITINs and bank accounts means for consumers. The resource clarifies that no immediate changes have been made to banking access for ITIN holders, outlines what may happen next, and offers tips to avoid scams and protect your finances. Newcap Closure Leaves Rural Wisconsin Communities Scrambling to Prevent Homelessness The closure of Newcap has left 10 northeastern Wisconsin counties without a key provider of homeless services, displacing more than 100 households and creating significant gaps in shelter, housing assistance, and coordinated services. Local nonprofits and community partners are stepping up to rebuild support systems, but leaders say restoring these critical services will take time and collaboration. Read more.
