October Market Report: Barley Supply Levels a Bit Clearer As Harvest Progresses

In terms of quality, Sask Ag's crop report from earlier in September provided some direction. For the provincial crop, the report indicated 27% was malt quality, slightly lower than the 10-year average of 30%, with 48% as a 1CW and 25% as 2CW or lower.

In Memory of Brent Johnson (1977-2024), Strasbourg, SK

With deep sadness we remember Brent Johnson, who passed away on September 18, 2024. Brent was elected to SaskBarley's inaugural board in January 2014 and was a dedicated member of the SaskBarley board of directors, serving two terms with unwavering commitment to Saskatchewan's barley industry.

Purple Barley? SaskBarley Tests Novel & Niche Barley Varieties and Their End Uses

Some unique varieties included in the research are a a purple barley, a 6-row malting variety, hooded barley, and hull-less varieties.

CGC Updates Grain Grading System for 2024-2025 to Include Food Barley Category - Farms.com

The introduction of new a variety designation list for Barley, Canada Western Food began August 1, 2024. Unlike malting or feed barley, food barley varieties have specific quality features such as high beta-glucans, essential for food production.
