Amari Jackson: An Inspiring Student Athlete Leader

In the heart of Halifax County Schools is Amari Jackson, a standout 12th grader at Southeast Collegiate Preparatory Academy, whose drive, discipline, and love for both school and athletics have made her an inspiration. For Amari, sports have always been more than games—they’ve been a journey of growth, teamwork, and perseverance. Over the years, she has left her mark in volleyball, cross country, softball, indoor track, and outdoor track.

Among her proudest achievements are breaking multiple school records, setting a county record, being named Female Athlete of the Year, and earning All-Conference honors in track. Her success has also opened doors for her future—Amari has already received 24 college offers to run track, including one from a university in Italy.

“Always trust the process and be patient .

Success doesn’t happen overnight, it takes hard work.”

Amari credits her father as her greatest encourager. “My dad encouraged me to really get into sports. He always said, ‘my daughter is the athlete in the family,’” she shares.

What she enjoys most about athletics, though, is the bond she has with her teammates: “What I enjoy most about being part of my team is having fun with my teammates.”

Game days aren’t without nerves, but Amari has her own way of preparing. Before she competes, she has a unique ritual: “Before a track meet I drink pickle juice or beet juice. Beet juice tastes nasty by the way. I stretch vigorously and try to relax until it is time to hit the track or the court.”

Her commitment doesn’t stop at the gym or on the field. A lover of Science, she keeps her academics front and center. “A student-athlete to me means holding myself to a higher standard, both on the court and inside the classroom,” she explains.

She strives to be a role model for younger student-athletes by showing that excellence in school and sports go hand in hand. “I want to set an example by working hard in school,” she says.

When asked what advice she would give to younger student athletes, Amari shares: “Always trust the process and be patient. Success doesn’t happen overnight, it takes hard work.”
