CEO Corner: Improving & Changing Lives in the Community
|
Welcome to the first edition of GCSS Newsletter! I’m Willie Green, President/CEO of Gulf Coast Social Services (GCSS). As many of you may already know, Gulf Coast was founded in 1983 in Louisiana. Currently headquartered in New Orleans, LA Area, a non-profit social service agency with offices across the state providing resources necessary to improve the quality of life and maximize independence for people who with behavioral health challenges or in need of home and community-based services. With over 40 years of serving the community and servicing tens of thousands of people across the state of Louisiana we realize there are many people who are not fully aware of the impact we have had on the communities that we serve. Starting with this CEO Corner Newsletter and moving we’d like to change that narrative and encourage you to engage with us, sharing your stories and inviting us into your corner of this beautiful state we call home. In our first edition I’d like to introduce you to some of our incredible staff that make what we do across the state possible.
First please allow me to share a little more about me. I have lived and worked in the New Orleans area for most of my life. I am a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, with a degree in Accounting and The University of New Orleans where I received my MPA. In addition, I have secured Advanced Certifications in Business Strategies from Tulane University. My career with Gulf Coast began in 2001, starting in our Accounting Department and have since matriculated through roles as the Regional Director in our Houma location, Regional Director for the New Orleans and Covington locations and was promoted to my current role as President and CEO in 2018.
Being the CEO of Gulf Coast Social Services allows one to make a significant impact by leading an organization dedicated to helping some of our state’s most vulnerable individuals and families. I wake up daily excited to see the positive changes our team makes in people’s lives, the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the organization, and the ability to collaborate with passionate individuals who are committed to social service are just of the few reasons I’ve stayed with Gulf Coast over 23 years.
Since 2020, the challenges we have faced have been significant… Including but not limited to navigating the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting to rapidly changing needs & state regulations all while ensuring the well-being and safety of our staff and the communities we serve. Despite these difficulties, the resilience and dedication of our team has been key in overcoming obstacles that landed us here for our 40th year of service to the community.
As fall arrives, I’m excited to share some of the remarkable new initiatives we have underway at Gulf Coast. This month, we will be launching our Mobile Youth Crisis program, in both our Houma and Alexandria regions. This initiative will allow us to extend our reach to support young people in their moments of greatest need, providing immediate, on-the-ground assistance and resources. This program underscores our dedication to being a steadfast ally for youth and their families during challenging times, always ensuring that help is always within reach. We are also working closely with Louisiana DCFS to expand our Therapeutic Foster Care Services in the state.
With our team of dedicated employees, volunteers, board of directors and supporters, we will continue to work together with a spirit of collaboration and innovation that has always defined Gulf Coast Social Services. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to reintroduce Gulf Coast Social Services to you as we are excited for what's to come. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you as we share our updates and stories about what Gulf Coast is doing in your community.
Sincerely,
Willie Green

I’m Hannah Morace, the Regional Director at our Alexandria location, and I’ve been with Gulf Coast Social Services since 2021. With over 10 years of experience in non-profit social service agencies, much of my career has been in leadership roles. In my position, I oversee all program management and growth, but what I love most is building and strengthening relationships with community members, employees, and those we serve.
I truly believe that the services we provide at Gulf Coast are making Louisiana communities healthier and stronger every day. As an employee, I have the opportunity to empower individuals to improve their quality of life and live as independently as possible in Central Louisiana.
In my free time, I love outdoor activities with my husband and
our four kids, and when I’m not cheering them on at sports or driving them to events, I enjoy reading and watching HGTV.

I’m Brenda Melancon, the Lafayette Regional Director, and I’ve dedicated 37 years to Gulf Coast Social Services. My journey began with my own experiences as a recipient of social services, shaped by numerous surgeries from a young age. These challenges led me to work with various professionals like speech therapists and doctors, helping me understand the importance of support. Initially aiming to become a veterinarian, my path shifted after starting a family. I’m proud that my children have pursued careers in service—my older daughter is a physical therapist, my second daughter is a pediatrician, and my son is passionate about sports.
As my children grew more independent, I began volunteering at their school and through Girl Scouts, where I met my first supervisor at Gulf Coast, encouraged to apply, I started as an office secretary and lifeguard at a home for dually diagnosed men. I loved helping individuals with disabilities learn skills for independent living. Over the years, I’ve worked to enhance our Lafayette office, expanding services into Alexandria and Lake Charles. I’m deeply committed to our mission at GCSS, supporting those who are often overlooked in our fast-paced world.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling to see my three adult children and six grandkids, reading on my patio, taking long walks, and exploring lakes, beaches, and mountains, while dreaming of visiting Italy.
I look forward to connecting with you if you are in the Lafayette Community.
