Village Adopts E-Scooter/E-Bike Regulations
| |
In response to the growing use of electric bikes and scooters, the Palatine Village Council adopted new regulations on September 15, 2025 to ensure safe and responsible use across the Village. These rules are designed to align the responsibilities of E-Bike and E-Scooter riders more closely with those of other motor vehicle operators. Find a copy of the ordinance here.
Effective September 15, 2025, the following regulations apply to motorized/electric bicycles (E-Bikes) and motorized/electric scooters (E-Scooters) on streets in the Village of Palatine:

- E-Bike and E-Scooter riders must follow the rules of the road.
- E-Bike and E-Scooters are not allowed on sidewalks.
- Riders of E-Bikes and E-Scooters cannot operate on public property (other than Village streets) and County or State highways.
- At night, E-Bikes and E-Scooters must have a front light visible from 500 feet and a red rear reflector or light visible from at least 50 feet.
- E-Bikes and E-Scooters shall not be used while distracted (e.g., using a phone, carrying anything that prevents control such as a package or other objects, etc.)
- E-Scooters must be equipped with a working brake.

| | Lead Water Line Replacement Program | | |
Did you know the Public Works Department offers a program to assist homeowners with replacing their lead or galvanized steel water service lines? The Lead and Galvanized Steel Water Service Line Replacement Cost Sharing Program is voluntary and available to all residential properties with existing lead or galvanized steel service lines. Residents must obtain pre-approval from Public Works in order to participate.
Under the Program, the Village reimburses homeowners 100% of the cost to replace the service line from the water main to the shut off valve (also known as the b-box) and 3/4 of the cost from the shut off valve to the meter. The maximum reimbursement is $11,000, plus permit fees.
Visit our website for program details and information on how to check if your service is lead or galvanized or call Public Works at (847) 705-5200.
| | Palatine Fire Department Open House October 4 | | |
Have you ever wondered what a fire engine looks like up close, how to use a firehose, or what a fire station looks like? Now is your chance! Mark your calendar for the annual Palatine Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at Fire Station 84 located at 220 W. Illinois Ave.
