Make polluters pay: a climate superfund law is introduced in Oregon

Senator Jeff Golden (Democrat–Ashland) has introduced an Oregon Climate Superfund bill for the 2025 legislature to make polluters pay. The bill proposes to shift some of the huge and increasing costs of extreme heat, droughts, and wildfires from the citizens of Oregon to fossil fuel corporations. These corporations have known for decades that burning fossil fuels produces climate change, but they have used their economic and political power to deceive the public, defeat efforts to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and expand their operations.

You can help keep Oregon state’s money out of fossil fuels!

Private equity firms are massively invested in fossil fuels, often without many people knowing, including their investors. SB 681 will mandate a 5-year moratorium on Oregon Treasury investments in private equity deals that are expected to invest 10% or more in the fossil fuel industry. The PAUSE Act is shining a bright light on these funds. Let's see what it uncovers!

Take Back the News

Too many news organizations stoke hate and spread misinformation for profit. TAO offers good alternatives to mainstream media.

Become a Citizen Advocate

Third Act Oregon is focused on supporting three specific bills that deal with climate issues, in the upcoming Oregon Legislative Session. Each of us is empowered to share our voices with our legislators in support of these bills. Over the next few months, TAO will share simple ways for you to engage in supporting these and other climate-based legislation efforts.

TIP#1 First, know who your legislative reps are! Confirm who your legislative reps are by going to the Oregon Legislative website. Get to know each legislator through online content (their websites, their biographies, their committees, and their environmental and climate voting records via Oregon League of Conservation Voters scorecards, etc.).

Third Act Oregon is a community of Oregonians over age 60 determined

to save our planet and protect democracy for our children.
