| | OCTOBER PEDAGOGICAL DAY - CHANGE | | |
As announced in the message from your child’s sector secretary, the pedagogical day originally scheduled for October 7 has been moved to October 5 to allow our students aged 18 and older to exercise their right to vote. Monday’s schedule will therefore apply on Wednesday, October 7.
The school calendar has been updated and is available on the school’s website.

The first progress report of the school year will be available on the Vanguard School COBA portal on October 15. This document includes our initial observations regarding your child's progress, independence, and behavior. We encourage you to discuss it together at home, as the interest you show in their schooling plays a key role in their motivation. This is a great opportunity to talk about their achievements, explore ways to work together on areas for growth, and congratulate them on all the effort they have put in since the start of the year!
How to access it:
-
Go directly to the Parent Portal (also accessible via the Vanguard School website, under Portals / Parents and Students Portal).
- Log in to your account.
-
In the left-hand column, click on REPORT CARD.
-
Click the arrow to the right of FIRST COMMUNICATION.
- The document will automatically download to your downloads folder.

NOVEMBER 2026 AND MARCH 2027
The format for parent-teacher meetings remains the same as it has been for several years: you must attend your meeting with your child.
For each parent-teacher meeting period (in November and March), two days are set aside on our school calendar. Given the personalized nature of these meetings and the time each homeroom teacher dedicates to each family, we aim to maintain a balance between your time with your child’s teacher, instructional time, and the professional development time allocated to our teachers during pedagogical days.
It is with this in mind that the school’s Board of Directors has approved this year’s arrangement: the first day of parent-teacher meetings is scheduled as a regular school day, while the second is a pedagogical day. However, on both of these days, students are only expected to be present at school during their parent-teacher meeting, accompanied by their parents.
This means there will be no regular classes on November 19 and March 25. Your child should therefore come to school with you at the time of their conference.

SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
| | |
To ensure a smooth return home, please remind your child that the school bus leaves school at 2:53 p.m. every day. It is therefore important that they are already seated on the bus before this time to avoid any delays. The driver has a schedule to follow and, unfortunately, cannot wait for students who arrive after the scheduled departure time.
If your child uses your car to get to school, please remind them that parking on the STANDARD PRO company grounds is strictly prohibited. This parking lot is reserved exclusively for Vanguard tag holders; otherwise, the vehicle will be subject to towing at the owner's expense. Checks are carried out regularly to verify sticker compliance.

| | | A SUCCESSFUL AND PROMISING NEW DIRECTION IN THE CAFETERIA | | |
We would like to highlight the success of our new cafeteria initiative. Thanks to the guidance and supervision of our team, your children are learning to choose what they enjoy eating. This has already led to an impressive reduction in food waste—aligning perfectly with our September theme: Getting to Know Ourselves.
Additionally, encouraging these thoughtful choices helps avoid purchasing unconsumed food, providing a welcome bonus for the family budget. Although the project is still in its trial phase and we continue to fine-tune our approach, the overall outcome is extremely positive.
We showed them this elementary school poster during our classroom visits to explain how the cafeteria works, as well as the price list and the annual menu (also available on our website).
If you look at the price list, you’ll see that there may now be some variation in the bill. For example, a student might choose just a bagel and juice. The total bill will therefore be lower. If a student chooses to have two soups, in addition to the main course and dessert, the total bill will be higher.
In short, a big congratulations to our students and the lunch service team for their independence and adaptability, and a sincere thank you to the students and teachers at Interval for their daily support during this transition!

As part of our efforts to strengthen our partnership with you and support you in your daily lives, we are delighted to invite you to the school’s very first webinar!
Technological tools (text-to-speech, word predictors, etc.) are now part of many students’ educational journey. But how can we move from merely using these tools to using them effectively, independently, and in a way that is empowering—both in the classroom and at home?
This interactive webinar will demystify these tools, offer strategies to support your child, and perhaps dispel some common misconceptions…
The event will conclude with a question-and-answer session during which we will have the opportunity to interact directly with you. Please note that the presentation will be in French. It will be rebroadcast afterward for those who are unable to join us, with the option of English subtitles.

Last year, 1,700 schools in Quebec participated in the Great Read-Along Challenge and helped accumulate 3.8 million minutes of reading in a single day!
This year, the Institut des troubles d'apprentissage is aiming even higher, with a goal of 5 million minutes of reading!
The elementary school team at Vanguard School is doing it again on October 22—how about you?
