Happy September

Hi,

It's hard to believe we're already in September. It's that time of year when we feel cooler nights and begin to see the leaves changing colors.

This time of year can mean a lot of changes for our dogs. Later mornings. More time outside. And maybe more time with you.

As Summer winds down, our routines often begin shifting again. That's something our dogs notice, too. Dog behavior experts recommend gradually preparing dogs for changes in household schedules rather than making a sudden switch.

Start making little changes now. Will breakfast be earlier? Will walks happen at a different time? Will your dog spend more time alone? You can begin adjusting your routine a little at a time. You don't have to change everything at once.

Do you need to practice a little independence? If your dog has been your constant companion all Summer, make sure they still know how to relax without you. Run a short errand. Spend some time in another part of the house. Give your dog a safe activity to enjoy independently. Learning to be comfortable alone is an important skill, and puppies aren't the only dogs who may need practice.

And don't forget the fun! A quieter house doesn't have to mean a boring day. Leave time for things your dog enjoys.

🐾 A food puzzle or "Find It" game

🐾 Five minutes of training

🐾 A little playtime when everyone gets home

🐾 Quiet time together in the evening
