A Closer Look at Where OFS Sources Rescued Food

Healing hunger takes creativity — and our food rescue partners bring plenty of it. This spring, Washington University in St. Louis students found a new way to help: donating their unused dining meal points, which Dining Services and vendor Sodexo turned into more than 46,000 pounds of shelf-stable food for people at risk of hunger.


It's one of the many inventive ways food gets onto local tables — from stadium kitchens after the final inning to a coffee roaster founded at the 1904 World's Fair. Meet the partners behind more than 45 years of food rescue.

OFS Nourishing Healthy Starts Team Takes the National Stage



When more than 1,200 maternal health professionals gathered in Los Angeles for the Postpartum Support International conference, they heard about ways OFS is impacting birth outcomes right here in St. Louis. 


Our Nourishing Healthy Starts team shared how pairing fresh food with dedicated support can improve maternal health, including mental health, and healthy birth rates. In fact, nearly 90% of babies born to program participants arrive at a healthy birth weight. Donate During Shop Out Hunger on Aug. 12



OFS is coming together with our local, family-owned grocery stores, Schnucks, Dierbergs, and Straub's Markets, to host Shop Out Hunger once again this year. 


This is our biggest food drive of the year, resulting in food for tens of thousands of people in our region! You can help by visiting your local grocer on Sat., Aug. 12 and purchasing extra items to donate. Just drop them in the Shop Out Hunger carts on your way out!
