1. SUMMER TUITION INVOICES

Summer tuition invoices and/or statements were sent by email today. Itemized charges reflect tuition for the entire summer and may include additional fee(s) for music and/or supplies received. Payment for summer lessons is due on or before each lesson. You are welcome to pay at each lesson, in advance for any number of weeks, monthly, or all at once.

Statements reflecting payments made, and/or balance due, will be sent again on the 25th of August. Invoices will only be sent if there are any new fees for music or supplies.

Tuition payments can be made by check or using the PayPal or Venmo payment services. If using PayPal or Venmo, please send as a payment to a friend. If you choose to send payment for goods or services, the additional 3% fee will be passed on to you.

Please contact Mrs. Fall if you have any questions about tuition or billing.

2. AUGUST LESSONS

The last 2 weeks of summer lessons will be August 4-5-6 and 11-12-13.

There will be NO LESSONS the first week of school for FCPS students (August 17-21). Enjoy getting settled in!

Lessons for the school year will begin on Monday, August 24th.

3. 2026-2027 STUDIO DOCUMENTS COMING SOON!

Studio documents for 2026-2027 are being finalized and will be sent the 1st week of August. For the first time in twelve years, tuition and fees will be raised. The per-lesson school-year fee will be at $95.00. Prorated monthly tuition fees will be $365. This allows for pay raises for Mrs. Fall and Dr. Lin.

4. PERFORMANCE ATTENDANCE

Unless you still need credit for 2025-2026, all concerts attended over the summer will be credited to the 2026-2027 school year.

Noah completed the 2025-2026 Performance Attendance requirement, attending his 3rd concert in Shanghai! You did it!!

Eilin has attended two concerts for 2026-2027! Way to go!!

For Performance Attendance credit, bring a program or ticket stub to your lesson. If there is no program or ticket stub available, bring or send a selfie photo of you at the concert.

Remember: In order to maintain a place in the studio, all students are required to attend a minimum of 3 concerts/performances performed by professional musicians of their instrument during the school year. Students are, however, encouraged to attend as many concerts as possible!

5. KUDOS TO STELLAR STUDENTS

Rebecca was accepted to the Guarneri Ensemble of the National Philharmonic Summer String Institute, AND she was appointed Concertmaster!

Rebecca was accepted to the 2026-2027 TCSYO String Ensemble.

Jason participated in the University of West Virginia Chamber Music Intensive. He shared this video of a brilliant performance of the 3rd movement of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence with his string sextet. Wow!!

BRAVI!!

6. INTERESTING LINKS The most interesting and helpful links that have come across my radar this month:

VCU Violin Professor Suzanna Klein discusses “the anatomy of practice” and how to develop deliberate practice in this short The Strad magazine article.

Bow Finger Flexibility

In this Facebook Short Reel, one can see how bow hand finger flexibility enhances quality tone in solo material.

Bow Hold Flexibility

Bowing with Wrist in Place

In this Facebook Short Reel, you can see how the bow is manipulated with the wrist remaining in neutral position.

Playing with a Flat Right Wrist

“Maintaining a flat wrist helps eliminate unnecessary vertical motion in the bow stroke. Instead, it encourages a more efficient horizontal movement of the bow, allowing the sound to stay focused and consistent.” Great 45 second Facebook video including discussion and demonstration.

Just for fun….

Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with “Cannon”

If your orchestra doesn’t have cannons, this is an alternative! Haha! Enjoy!
